CAIRO, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Within the Saladin Citadel, the iconic historic castle overlooking Egypt's capital, the 9th edition of the International Festival for Drums kicked off with a dynamic opening ceremony on Saturday night.

Hundreds of drums from more than 40 countries are expected to participate in various musical events featuring drums across Cairo, to celebrate the week-long carnival for drummers and music lovers in the city.

The festival, under the slogan of "Drums Dialogue for Peace," calls upon the musicians, performers, and artists to share their musical vision, encourage cultural dialogue and embrace peace and inclusiveness across the world.
